Dust Sampling Technician Certification - Alaska

Course Description

This course is Dust Sampling Technician Training under Section 402 of TSCA for EPA certification for non-abatement lead dust clearance testing.

This class gives students an understanding of the Federal, State and Indian Tribe regulatory requirements for lead dust clearance testing, how to conduct a visual inspection, how to correctly identify visible dust, as well as debris and deteriorated paint.  This class will also teach students how to appropriately determine where to take dust samples and how to develop a sampling strategy.  Collecting dust samples using standardized procedures as well as interpreting results of laboratory analysis for lead in dust is also addressed.  This course ends with a certification exam to show compliance with the EPA's ruling taking effect April 22, 2010 for lead safe work practices.

Anyone who would like to become certified under the US EPA to conduct non-abatement lead dust clearance testing is encouraged to take this.

Do I Need This Certification?
When operating under the EPA RRP lead program a contractor has the choice of doing clearance verification or having a third party technician come in and do clearance testing. This course will certify you to become a Dust Sampling Technician to perform clearance testing. All HUD jobs require this higher level of testing to clear a lead project. EPA Dust Sampling Technician certification allows the certified individual to perform dust clearance sampling on EPA and HUD RRP projects.
